This thread will be used to keep track of the updated lore and setting information for the Styss Rebirth server.
Discussion Rules:
The lore we've discussed so far between the few of us that birthed this idea is as follows. Please feel free to use it as a starting point for all further discussions:
So there you have it. Every character in the server is trapped in a divine planar prison, unable to escape (for now) by any means they might try. Some fight to keep the cell door closed, while others wish to throw it wide open. There's more to it, but I'd rather not spoil the story for potential players, and instead give you all the tidbit of the prison that you know about in the first place, or would figure out pretty easily once you arrived there.

Discussion Rules:
- Not all ideas are considered equal here. While we will consider every idea and all discussions to a degree, please refrain from getting hostile or upset if your idea isn't chosen. There will be a lot of ideas for how we want to shape the server, and not all of them can win, but we thank you for all the input!
- Please keep all discussion civil and to the point.
- This server is a spiritual successor to Isle of Styss, not Isle of Styss itself. This means the setting will be different, the cities will not be the same, but a lot of the processes of the server will hope to be in the same vein as the original server (meaning player elected leaders, forts, gems, ect.)
The lore we've discussed so far between the few of us that birthed this idea is as follows. Please feel free to use it as a starting point for all further discussions:
Styss Rebirth will be set in a prison plane designed by the gods, an eternal self contained planar structure that has no way out save for being removed by a deity themselves, and they certainly are not of the habit of removing those they placed in here.
Not all are fully aware that they are in a planar prison, but a few are. The gods have placed the eternal souls of people here for various reasons that can be as varied as the people trapped there: some are prisoners for turning against a deity, some are failed champions placed in exile, some, traitors. The unwanted and failed creations of deities and anything in between - all kinds end up in the lands here.
Which brings us to the two major warring cities: In Styss Rebirth, there are two cities fighting each other over the mysterious crystals that appear in the isles, each city fighting for a different, opposing reason. One city fights for freedom - wanting to escape that planar prison and perhaps find a way back to the material realms and be reborn, reincarnated, or resurrected back into life to continue on. They struggle to gain control of the crystals, believing they were put here for a reason, and that perhaps they play key to finding a way out of the jail they are all stuck in.
The second city fights to oppose this - for a multitude of reasons. There are those who simply want to remain in the prison because it is a utopia in their eyes: death and suffering is far more difficult to make permanent because once they die, they simply return to life to fight again, their souls still trapped in the prison. (After all, no sane deity would want to let the prisoners escape so simply). Some fully believe in the lie the prison tells them: they think they are not in a prison, and that the others are mislead. They believe they came here of their own free will, and can leave at any time. Some even think they do leave - going wherever it is they may - not knowing that the prison simply hauls them off to another part of itself, and creates a false world that they want to see...and all the people inside of it...they think they escaped but if one looks close enough, they realize the false reality they've been placed in. Further still, some even believe that if they try to escape the prison, an even worse fate will befall them - having angered the gods by defying them further.
Regardless, the reasons for fighting are diverse, with few ever sitting on the sides in neutrality, most feeling moved to either keep locked in their jail, or to try and break free. Not to mention the...lucrative pay warriors on the battlefields often receive from their cities proper.
