Examples: i.imgur.com/qhq1lLm.jpgi.imgur.com/twZwylQ.jpgThe general idea of the server has been given a slight change due to some deliberation and a good idea from Yegor in chat: Now the server will be based around floating islands, earth motes, ect. above a void (think plane of air, ect. - If there's ground, nobody has ever seen it here). The three cities (two warring, one neutral) will be more player driven in their reasons for why they fight, and what they want, with an overarching general idea still given to the server - If one city falls, the other will be able to escape from this trap/prison. Each City has a limited resource of gems (perhaps mythals?) that keep them floating in the air - except for the neutral/merc city which is on a smaller floating stone - because of this, the two main cities plot and work to steal the other cities stones (or even just work to keep their own to maintain the status quo - or ANYTHING the players can come up with to fight/not fight/ect.). If one city loses all of it's stones, it begins to fall. Each day that it has no stones, it falls faster. Eventually (by what the players assume/know) the city would plummet into the void and be gone for good. Some ideas would be: Keeping track of city altitudes on the forums or in game somehow to know where the cities are relative to one another. This idea I feel is good for the server because it allows us to isolate biomes (forests, deserts, ect.) and build interesting flying-island style cities, keeps, dungeons, ect. as well as being a fairly unique idea among the community. Thoughts?

Hmmm so there is a pretty jungle-style flying island out there, and it floats because it has one of those stones...can someone from the city just steal that stone and let the island in question be engulfed by the void?

The idea sounds very nice in general, kind of an Avatar movie environment? But how do the warriors of the cities reach the other islands, do they have boats that fly with those stones or are the islands connected with portals or can the prisoners of that plane fly?
Perhaps add more motivation to be above the fog of the void..like adding monster attacking the a city more frequently the lower it sinks down.

Can't say I like it any more or less than the previous settings. Floating islands are pretty unique, and as mentioned do allow for different islands pretty easily. Arctic, desert, fire, etc. But how do the warriors of the cities reach the other islands. I'm a bit concerned about this part though. Seems a floating island would be particularly difficult to attack, which would discourage large scale combat/RP things. Making everyone kind of just hang out on their own island instead. Unless the islands are far larger than I'm thinking, which could be the case.

Odds are the land around the cities will be massive and there will be more then one way onto the main isles. A wide variety of ways from flying boats, to bridges that go between smaller sections, to portals that naturally show up though out the isles. I'm sure there will be a few small issues at some point that we will have to work out but we will cross that bridge when we find it.

I have heard of this sort of thing before in the past. . . I do have some sort of an idea though, rather then a rare crystals that holds up the city. Have you thought about it being the power that allows things on the city island to grow food, crops and generate water.
Think of it like this, and l will try to explain it as easy as I can.
The three cities orbit in a pattern and ever so often 2 of the 3 come close enough that gap can be crossed without a air ship as a void gate generated by the plane. To allow ether the 2 warring states to battle, or allow one of the two warring and the neutral City to trade and if you, but it would only allow them to orbit only for a while. (Maybe only for a week or two or something along those lines.) And if you missed your chance to get back you are stuck there on your own, forcing you to find others means to return your city. . . As for the crystal part. Each City has a power source that allows things in their lands to grow food and generate water. As these are floating Cities, how could they generate water after it is all used? It can't, simple as that. So having this crystal work as a way to enrich the land and the health of the City of it's people by giving them what they need. And if one of the Cities crystal would be taken or broke, they would lose the ability to farm food, the water would dry up, and they would need to find ether a new one, or force them to attack the other city to gain their crystal to save it's own City from dying out from lack of food of water. . .
Whether or not it holds it up is something one can think, but how can one be for sure? I mean have someone removed it to see? And how can one judge if the City if falling or if one is rising up?

I'm not too fond of the idea of having players trapped away from their island for a long period of time just because they missed an arbitrary orbital period. It makes the pvp a bit too difficult to achieve if they are constantly worried about being trapped. The idea of the food and water is kind of cool though. Maybe once a city falls far enough from not having it's crystal, it begins to lose other magics as well. It falls beneath a certain level where the sun shines bright enough to feed crops - leaving the city in an eternal twilight, or eventually - eternal night time, where no sun shines at all, until they climb higher. Maybe undead even -want- that to happen, and try to keep the city at that lowered state so the sun isn't around?

That could work yes.
And what l meant by the orbiting thing was not really trapping a player. It was an idea to allow them to fight, but not ALL the time as the two orbit it give them time to think, make repairs, gather men, intel, and other things. Make them use ships to get to and from one another, can even make it where the farther they get from one another the longer it takes to make it make home for them. As this was just an idea really, as l am sure you don't want them to be fighting non-stop for months, as these are not land cities, but floating islands, so sure they may move if a gust of wind hits it. I can explain more if you like.

There is a large scale battle field in Guild Wars 2 that is a set of three major fortresses on a cluster of floating islands.. they are connected by several bridges some of which can be destroyed like one made of ice and stuff like that.. and also allow connected by air ship.. the staging grounds themselves are big airships and scattered across the islands are resources like oil and quarries and then temples and stuff for magical powers.. so it could be something similar to that or perhaps its several islands orbiting a central hub that is where all the resources are so it gives a reason for the different towns to be fighting over it
